Disobey Your Master’s Voice

Please note: this event will take place online.

Disobey your master’s voice is a writing workshop centered around the theme of disobedience. What does it mean for writing to be disobedient?

In the workshop we will explore the ways in which writing can be disobedient, through content, form, genre, structure and we will look at the ways in which writing can reject norms in order to create exciting new potentials. We will consider ideas around legibility and incoherence and to whose rules we conform and who imbues meaning.

We will draw from examples and discuss how writers create disobedience within their work, and to what effect. We will also be following a number of writing prompts in order to create our own disobedient approach to writing!

No prior experience in writing is required and nobody will be asked to share their work if they feel uncomfortable doing so! We ask that all participants could bring with them something to a piece of paper (any kind) and something to write with that you wouldn’t usually!
