Learn from us

Glasgow Zine Library is delighted to offer learning opportunities through zines to organisations, individuals, and groups who may wish to explore our collection and get hands-on experience with zine-making. Zines are so varied in their topics, and inspiring in their creativity, there is something for everyone, no matter the age, interest, or previous experience of the participants.

Below are the two main sessions we offer for groups.

If you have any questions about either option, want to do something different, or to discuss further in general, please use the enquiry form here.

OPTION 1 - A Visit

Cost: Free!

Capacity: ~20*

Good for: schools, local organisations, charities, arts & crafts groups, social groups

We can organise a visit for free on any day that suits you (depending on staff availability). Someone on the team will welcome you in, and give access to our reading room (with several hundred public zines), and answer any questions that you may have about our work and the library itself.

We can leave our making materials and basic instructions for anyone who wants to have a go at making a zine for themselves. This is a self-directed experience, with no formal workshop or teaching from GZL staff.

*If visiting during public opening hours, this may be limited by other members of the public. Please get in touch to discuss your group's size!

OPTION 2 - A Workshop/Talk/Seminar

Cost: £225

Capacity: groups of ~12

Good for: conferences, university or college groups, teambuilding, funded groups working on projects, funded groups exploring days out

We can facilitate a 1.5-2 hour beginner workshop based around a theme, or generalised.

During this session, we explore the history, intent and point of zines, and leave room for icebreaker exercises and leading discussions about the zines in our collection.

Participants are taught how to make a zine, including through prompts which can be tailored to a session. They leave with their own zine(s) and ideas on how to explore the practice further. We can also give talks on zines, separate to workshops, please ask!
