Be a GZL Volunteer!

Glasgow Zine Library is looking for new volunteers to add to our team. If you’re interested in zines, archives, or community arts spaces/events, this is the role for you!

Our volunteers help staff the library by making visitors feel at home, telling them about events, and keeping the zine collection tidy and looking it's best. There will also be the option to get training to catalogue and develop our collection of over 3,500 zines with our heritage project.

There's no fixed commitment for how long or how frequently you must commit to volunteering. You will receive a full induction, and reasonable travel expenses will be covered.

Inductions are due to take place in October, and then quarterly.

We have 3 main volunteer roles:

LIBRARY: Being a Library Volunteer means being in the library during our public opening hours (Fridays, Saturdays and every third Wednesday evening). Shifts are usually 3 hours long. It is a public-facing role, you will be expected to interact with members of the public.

ARCHIVE: Being an Archive Volunteer means you will be working hands-on with our collection of zines, helping to catalogue, digitise, and organise the material in our archive. This means you’ll be entering information about, or making digital scans of,  our zines into our online public database so that visitors and creators can easily find information about them.

EVENTS: Being an Events Volunteer is a public-facing role that forms part of our community outreach. We go into universities, schools, colleges, community groups, and more to deliver zine-making workshops for all ages. We also run drop-in arts and crafts activities, or run tables and stalls dedicated to zines or informing people about the library. These events can range in size from a few people to several hundred.
