How can zines help survivors of the mental health system to facilitate restorative justice?
Zines allow us to give language and expression to our experiences on our own terms, and share this with others, if we want to. They can connect us with others who have common experiences or build understanding for people who don't. They can be tools for activism, campaigning and community building. They can connect us with others who have common experiences or build understanding for people who don't.
This workshop will share some ideas and practices about how zines might help facilitate restorative justice for survivors of the mental health system. It will be facilitated by Hel Spandler (editor of Asylum magazine and Principal Investigator of the Madzines research project) and Tam Martin Fowles (Mad Woman Talking and Hope in the Heart CIC). We’ll talk a bit about our work and share some strategies for being with, making and sharing Madzines.
