Preserving Community Stories: Scots Zine Launch

  • Glasgow Zine Library 32-34 Albert Road Glasgow, Scotland, G42 8DN United Kingdom (map)

Please note: this event will be held in person at Glasgow Zine Library. This event is BYOB so you are welcome to bring your own drinks. Please note, this means alcohol may be present and consumed during this event.

Join us for the launch of two Scots zines by Hayley Jane Dawson and Lynsey Gilmour.

Hayley and Lynsey will be reading from their Scots zines, commissioned by Glasgow Zine Library and funded The National Lottery Heritage Fund. There will be zines available to buy on the night and an exhibition of ceramics.

Hayley's zine is a trip doon memory lane - an exploration of Scots language and culture, and how that translates into the process of ceramic making.

Lynsey's zine explores the stories, the people and the landscape of Easter Ross through photography and poetry. The original poems are written in the Scots dialect of Easter Ross, and in Gaelic, and shows how the languages weave together in a call and response across the communities of the Easter Ross Penninsula.

About Hayley and Lynsey:

Hayley Jane Dawson (b.1987) is a working-class artist from Glasgow. Their practice is interdisciplinary, working mainly with ceramics, installation and text. Their work has been published by Pilot Press and shown at Generator Projects and WASPS Patriothall. Dawson was commissioned by Lunchtime Gallery to make a pamphlet of their writings and drawings in 2022. They are currently undertaking the MLitt Art Writing course at the Glasgow School of Art.
