Divergent Design Series: Peer Support Session

This event will be held online. This event is part of the Divergent Design Workshop Series.

The Divergent Design series with Marta Rose has been such a nourishing opportunity to connect with each other and affirm the ways that we move through the world.

We have been making time at the end of each session for peer support and time to share reflections and experiences related to the session. We wanted to create a longer opportunity for peer support and an opportunity to document the learning and connections we have made so have set aside an entire session on 5th August, 6:30-8:30pm to do just this.

Our topic for this session will be shame, and specifically the shame we feel about our creative lives.

Many of us feel paralyzed about getting started on new creative projects, even ones we are excited about, and shame only reinforces that paralysis. We also often feel ashamed about the creative projects we did start with such enthusiasm, buying all the supplies and doing endless research, but then ultimately abandoning. The shame can keep us from ever picking that project back up again. Shame fuels so many of our avoidant behaviors.

What does this shame feel like for you?

Have you found ways to disrupt it that allow you to get back to your creative work?

How might we use the lenses of spiral time, design thinking, and mise en place to help us get past our shame that interferes with our creativity?

This session is for people who have attended one or more Divergent Design events.

This peer support session is time for questions, requests for insight and support, general community vibes and chat.

You will also get the chance to contribute to a zine. The zine aims to record the things that have been important to us about the sessions, the things we have learned and any reflections that we would like to share with the wider group and beyond. This will then be distributed digitally to all of the people who attended the sessions, and a copy added to the Glasgow Zine Library collection and archive.

About the facilitator:

I’m Marta Rose, a neurodivergent creator living in Philadelphia PA. I have a neurodivergent partner, as well as two grown neurodivergent kids. I started making content for neurodivergent creatives on Instagram as divergent_design_studios and on YouTube as The Spiral Lab, which is also the name of my substack newsletter. I’m still publishing the newsletter semi-regularly, but most of my creative energy these days is spent making art, writing a novel, doing interior design, and facilitating a wonderful online community called DDS (Divergent Design Studios), hosted on the Mighty Networks platform. We offer body-doubling sessions, lots of peer support, and creative workshops and maker space sessions on various topics, from cooking to doodling to authentic movement practice.
