What Zines Can Do (Inside and Outside of Academia)

This talk assess the ways researchers of all stripes can use zines to better communicate with the public and each other. Part memoir, part manifesto, it lays out a series of arguments and ideas about the value of print and DIY publishing for sharing information, catalyzing conversations, and building community. Participants will learn about several projects that use zines to disseminate research and activate publics. The talk will end with a Q&A and opportunity for participants to share their own ideas for zine interventions.

Anne Pasek is an Assistant Professor & Canada Research Chair in Media, Culture, and the Environment at Trent University. She teaches and publishes on the cultural politics of climate change and runs DIY Methods, a conference-by-zine.

This event will be held online. You will need a good internet connection and a laptop/computer/mobile device to join us.

There will be 100 attendees maximum, and the event will feature comfort breaks. During this event, attendees will participate in: Talk / Lecture, Group Discussions, Sharing work that has been created, Visual presentation, Q&A
