Ancestral Returns: Collective Filmmaking for Beyond Human Experiences

  • Glasgow Zine Library 32-34 Albert Road Glasgow, Scotland, G42 8DN United Kingdom (map)

Please note: this event will be held in person and is open to Black people and people of colour only.

Imagine yourself as an ancestor returning to create a film with others. This workshop will explore lo-fi filmmaking and create a zine art manifesto that guides collective filmmaking practice. Drawing inspiration from film collectives such as Colectivo Los Ingrávidos, the session will experiment with analogue and Super 8 film techniques and found materials. The event will be structured around collaborative tasks, where participants will work together to create a collective narrative, engaging in practices like etching, scratching, and coating film.

At the end of the session, we will distil our experiences and creative principles into a guide, which will be compiled into a zine. This is an opportunity to experiment, play, and engage in collective film-making that connects beyond human experiences.

A simple lunch of soup and bread (with vegan / gluten free options) will be provided but please do feel free to bring your own lunch if you prefer. Tea, coffee, biscuits and fruit will be available throughout the day.

Masks are encouraged at this event.
