U Belong x LEAP Sports Festival Fortnight at Refugee Week Scotland 2024

Join us for an amazing evening highlighting the connection between sports, creativity and community solidarity as part of Festival Fortnight 2024. U Belong Glasgow is collaborating with LEAP Sports Festival Fortnight and Glasgow Zine Library in Refugee Week Scotland.

This event will be delivered in two parts: first section is a discussion focused on LEAP Sports and their Just Active project followed by Q&A. The second section is a performance panel focusing on the talents of three creatives. There will be art, music, poetry and a space for connections.

The event is free and all is welcome to attend (18+) as the audience. The main stage is for local creatives from the LGBTIQ+ and BPOC communities which offers the audience a unique opportunity to witness and engage with creativity from underrepresented identities.

Content warnings: Difficult circumstances and unpleasant experiences
including discrimination, seeking refuge/asylum, racism, oppression and hostility.

About the organisers:

U Belong is a multilingual community platform that features BPOC, LGBT+, and disabled creatives. We also highlight community groups, charities, organisations etc that foster similar values of equality and diversity. U Belong was established in September 2020. We have a collaboration with Glasgow Zine Library to support us with marketing, ticketing, evaluation forms, and accessibility requirements. Each year we work with different creatives and follow different themes in our events.

Access information for this event:

This event is suitable for ages 18+. There will be 30 attendees maximum, and the event will feature comfort breaks. During this event, attendees may participate in: Talk / Lecture, Reading, Sharing work that has been created, Visual presentation, Sound/music, Movement, Q&A

This event will take place at Glasgow Zine Library's place on Albert Road. You can find directions here.

GZL pledges to support The Palestinian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel. As part of this pledge we may participate in strikes called in response to the ongoing genocide in Palestine. If this event falls on a strike day and is cancelled, we will work with event leaders to reschedule the event asap. Participants will also have the option of receiving an immediate refund for any ticket purchases and travel booked to attend.
